Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Snoring has the origin in the nose or throat through an obstruction of the airway. The obstruction is caused by a relaxation of the soft palate, tongue muscles and muscles of the mouth floor. Through the restriction during breathing the inhaled air is accelerated and vibration of the throat soft tissue develops so that the snoring noise occurs.

It depends on sleeping habits, overweight and consumption of alcohol. Due to the noise they disturb others and put their own health in danger because of reduced oxygen supply to the brain and temporary breathing stops (sleeping apnea).

A reduced oxygen supply due to a disturbed sleeping rhythm has severe influence on the physical and mental ability as well as on the concentration. Further more it can lead to excessive daytime sleepiness, impotence, irritability, headaches, restlessness during sleep and within years to cardiovascular consequences like high blood pressure, heart attack, heart failure and stroke. Following from the above there should be a thoroughly investigation of the sleeping disorder as soon as possible followed by the appropriate therapy.
